Amidst an atmosphere of festivity, local pride, and fierce athletic competition, the 23rd Annual Ensenada FlashLyte International Half Marathon took place. The awards ceremony was presided over by the municipal mayor, Claudia Agatón, who honored the standout athletes of this year’s edition—an event held as part of the celebrations marking the 144th anniversary of Ensenada’s founding.
The athletic event successfully drew a total of 5,000 participants, split evenly between two groups: 2,500 runners who took on the challenge of the 21-kilometer half marathon, and another 2,500 citizens and families who enjoyed the 2-kilometer recreational run.
Accompanied by María Jesús Trujillo Hernández, Director of the Municipal Institute of Sports and Recreation (INMUDERE), the mayor presented a total cash prize purse amounting to 320,500 pesos, distributed among the top three finishers in each of the various categories.
The day’s undisputed star was athlete Ayrton Daniel Ledesma Fuentes, a native of Ciudad Nicolás Bravo, Puebla. Ledesma not only claimed the title of overall winner in the men’s division but also made history by clocking a time of 1 hour, 8 minutes, and 47 seconds—shattering the record set the previous year by a margin of more than 35 seconds.
Meanwhile, the women’s division was dominated with commanding authority by Argentina Valdepeñas Cerna, a native of Torreón, Coahuila. She stopped the clock at 1 hour, 17 minutes, and 37 seconds, thereby cementing her status as the overall champion of the athletic competition held at Playa Hermosa. Inclusion and Recognition of Baja California Talent
The Government of Ensenada and sports authorities placed special emphasis on the inclusion categories, recognizing the effort and discipline of athletes in the Wheelchair, Disability, and Blind/Visually Impaired divisions.
Likewise, priority recognition was given to the top runners native to Ensenada, thereby fostering the development of Baja California talent in international-caliber competitions—events that directly impact the border region and attract sports tourism from Southern California.
