This positioning reflects the recognition achieved in various national and international arenas, driven by the initiatives of Governor Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda.

This work is carried out through the Baja California State Tourism Secretariat (Secture), headed by Miguel Ángel Badiola Montaño, which has strengthened the strategic promotion of the destination, professionalization, and collaboration with the various stakeholders in the tourism sector.

With five nominations in the eighth edition of the “Best of Mexico” awards, organized by México Desconocido magazine, the state is participating in categories that reflect the diversity of its tourism offerings: Tecate as “Best Magical Town for a Gastronomic Experience,” Bahía de los Ángeles as “Best Hidden Gem to Discover,” Valle de Guadalupe as “Best Luxury and Wellness Experience,” the Tijuana-Ensenada Scenic Highway as “Best Experience to Have in Mexico at Least Once in a Lifetime,” and Baja California as “Best State to Enjoy Regional and Contemporary Cuisine.”

For its part, the Ministry of Tourism extended an invitation to the public to participate in the “Best of Mexico” voting on the official website lomejormexico.com, available until 11:59 p.m. on April 20. This exercise allows the public to recognize and support the state’s rich tourism, gastronomy, and culture, directly contributing to its national profile, while strengthening the sense of belonging and pride in its destinations.

Meanwhile, on the international stage, Baja California won two awards out of seven nominations at the 2025 Food and Travel Reader Awards, one of the most significant being the recognition as Mexico’s Best Gastronomic Destination, which reaffirms the reach and prestige of its culinary offerings to global audiences.

In addition, among the individual awards, the name of chef Sheyla Alvarado stood out, with her restaurant Lunario in the Valle de Guadalupe, distinguished as the best sustainable restaurant, reflecting her commitment to responsible gastronomy and environmental stewardship.

Adding to this positive picture is the state’s participation in the Bacchus International Competition, a world-renowned event for the evaluation of wines, vermouths, and spirits, endorsed by the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV), where a panel of expert judges conducts blind tastings.

In this edition, Baja California won 18 medals, excelling in red, white, and sparkling wines, confirming the quality and diversity of its wine industry.
