A suspected party linked to the criminal group “Los Rusos” in Mexicali, Baja California, led to a large-scale security operation that culminated in gunfire, raids, and the arrest of at least 28 people, including a leader of the group.
According to news reports, it all began after complaints about a noisy celebration. However, the situation escalated when authorities received reports of gunfire, prompting a mobilization of law enforcement agencies from all three levels of government.
Police and military personnel established a perimeter around the area that lasted for up to 18 hours while a search warrant was obtained to raid the residence.
During the operation, reports of assaults and gunfire raised tensions in the area. Finally, after entering the property, authorities arrested 28 people allegedly linked to the criminal organization.
According to the weekly magazine Proceso, among those arrested is Miguel Germán Martínez Rangel, alias “El Mike,” identified as an operator for the group “Los Rusos,” a faction linked to the Sinaloa Cartel.
Reports indicate that this criminal group is associated with the faction known as “Los Mayos,” and is headed by Juan José Ponce Félix, alias “El Ruso,” considered one of the leaders of this criminal organization.
Authorities stated that the raid was carried out in a coordinated effort between state and federal forces, as part of the actions to combat the presence of organized crime groups in the region.
This case demonstrates how an initial noise report led to the discovery of alleged criminal activity, as well as a large-scale operation in the border city.
