A total of 37 businesses in the Central Zone of Ensenada closed in 2024, reported Rafael Chávez Montaño, regional vice president of the Northwest Zone of the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Concanaco).

“There were losses of businesses as strong as “El Faro” which was a historic clothing store in Ensenada, also curiosity shops on Calle Primera that were more than 30 years old and had to close their doors, it is something that we regret very much because we know that they are from hard-working people who left their whole lives there,” he said.

The businessman considered that 2024 was a year full of changes, which affected economic stability.

We changed the national president, it was a year of transition, and changes always catch many merchants off guard and there are those who can adapt and those who cannot with the growing change that occurs every six years”

Chávez Montaño commented that a large part of the businesses that closed were cell phone and accessories stores.

“Just as they open and are a boom in a moment, they close shortly after, they do not maintain a level, especially the recently created businesses,” he indicated.

The businessman commented that this year they also opened 24 new businesses and their owners are very encouraged and hopeful that 2025 will be a good year for the economy.

“The challenge for next year is to know exactly the market, that will be the great challenge and how it is currently moving, since this year’s market is not the same as next year’s, it will be a more difficult market, we are struggling more and more, the competition is increasingly stronger with online sales, consumer centers and large companies are raising the bar in terms of prices and profits are reduced,” he explained.
