This April, the Huehuecóyotl Teachers’ Dance Group is celebrating its second anniversary and is preparing to continue representing the city and the state of Sonora at national events, as well as welcoming new members.
Professor Adán Bautista, director of the group, which belongs to Region X of Section 28 of the National Union of Education Workers (SNTE), said that Huehuecóyotl was formed to promote dance and spark interest in the community in practicing this art form.
Men and women over the age of 14 are invited to join the group, which, thanks to the talent of its members, has been invited to participate in national and international events. Examples include their performances at a Dance Festival in Colombia in May 2025 and other performances in Baja California.
Professor Adán Bautista mentioned that to celebrate the second anniversary of “Huehuecóyotl,” they are continuing rehearsals for future performances and are also inviting teenagers, young adults, and adults from San Luis to join and learn to dance or to strengthen their existing dance skills.
“After the rehearsal, there will be a small gathering with the group members. It will be at the CAM 10 facilities, located at the corner of Avenida México B and Calle 12, which is where we rehearse. We will also be presenting awards to our performers there.”

It should be noted that classes are free and rehearsals are held Monday through Thursday from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the Multiple Attention Center (CAM) building number 10.
He added that the dancers will begin rehearsing the dances they have been performing for the past two years and will conclude with a new program of calabaceados (a type of traditional dance) which they will present at the Mission Festival in Ensenada, Baja California, on May 23 and 24. On August 22 and 23, they will take the stage at the seventh edition of the Northern Festival Tierra de Vaqueros, entitled “100 Years of History,” which will be held in Rosarito, Baja California.
“We are very happy to be celebrating another anniversary. This motivates us to continue putting our whole heart into what we do, folk dance,” Professor Adán Bautista emphasized.
