The Baja California History Seminar and the Ensenada City Government, through IMCUDHE, invite the Ensenada community to the presentation of the book The Yugoslavian Who Came from Alaska, by Francisco Tarín Perisky. This free event will take place next Wednesday, April 29, at 7:00 p.m. in the Casino Room of the Riviera Social, Civic, and Cultural Center in Ensenada.
This activity is part of the Seminar’s 35th Annual Cycle, a forum dedicated to the dissemination of regional, national, and international history, as well as to encounters with authors and researchers whose works enrich our collective memory.
The historical novel narrates the extraordinary life of Antonio Periškić Kusturin, a real person whose journey took him through some of the most complex scenarios of the 20th century. Hunter, fisherman, interpreter, farmer, and sailor, his story reflects the spirit of those who faced wars, shipwrecks, migrations, and extreme challenges in search of their place in the world.
The author, an Ensenada resident and direct descendant of the person who inspired the work, shares a family investigation transformed into a literary narrative, where memory, adventure, and historical reflection intertwine.
The book will be discussed by Ensenada’s official chronicler, Horacio González Moncada, who will offer contextual analysis of the relevance of these types of accounts for understanding migration processes and the individual stories that also form part of the history of our region.
The Baja California History Seminar and the Ensenada government, headed by Claudia Agatón, reiterate their invitation to the general public to attend this presentation, where literature, memory, and historical vocation converge.
