Cosco will implement a comprehensive strategy to improve the Mexican market, based on three pillars: maritime transport, ports, and logistics.
Cosco Shipping, one of the world’s leading shipping lines, celebrated the start of its new WSA5 “Mexico Express” service with the arrival of the vessel Xin Dalian at the Hutchison Ports container terminal, located in Ensenada, Baja California, whose main objective is to improve delivery times between Asia and Mexico.
“Today we are here to celebrate the inaugural journey of Cosco’s new WSA5 ‘Mexico Express’ service with the first stop of the vessel Xin Dalian. Our WSA5 service will provide a fast transit time between China, the Far East, and Mexico, reaching the ports of Ensenada, Manzanillo, and Lázaro Cárdenas. It reflects the attention that Cosco Shipping is placing on the Mexican market as a key market,” assured Fu Hua, General Manager of COSCO Mexico.
According to the executive, over the last few years, Mexico’s imports have increased significantly, with arrival times ranging between 24 and 28 days from China to the ports of Ensenada, Manzanillo, and Lázaro Cárdenas, which, according to Fu Hua, stands out for its capacity, and was therefore selected by the demanding Asian-origin automotive industry as the main entry point to Mexico.
“The focus of the WSA5 service is to continue improving this shipping channel, also connecting for the first time the port of Dalian, China, with the Mexican market directly,” he specified.
For his part, Jorge Magno Lecona, head of the Latin America and Caribbean Division of Hutchison Ports, highlighted the importance of the arrival of this vessel, noting that it is a very important milestone for all Mexican ports.
“27 years ago, the containers that arrived, which were very scarce, came on a barge and we unloaded them with construction cranes, and in the same place, we operated tourist cruises at the port of Ensenada. Today, seeing this great vessel, the only thing that leads us, at Hutchison Ports, is to ally ourselves to develop new businesses, for the benefit of our customers,” Lecona pointed out.
Improving the Mexican market
Cosco Shipping will implement a comprehensive strategy to improve the Mexican market, based on three pillars: maritime transport, ports, and logistics. Regarding maritime transport, the company will invest in deploying more space capacity, increasing the number of WSA5 and WSA3 vessels.
In the port sector, it will seek to strengthen cooperation with its partners in the most important ports of Mexico. In terms of logistics, it is developing integrated solutions for its customers by exploring deeper cooperation opportunities and strengthening inland service resources through strategic partnerships with suppliers.
Furthermore, the company stated that it will seek to facilitate the internal movement of cargo in Mexico by introducing special services such as unit train delivery, fast pickup delivery, and dedicated transport.
“We are working to provide solutions that facilitate the internal movement of cargo in Mexico in cooperation with our various partners, introducing special services such as unit train delivery, fast pickup delivery, and dedicated transport,” concluded Fu Hua.
