During President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s visit to Baja California, particularly to San Quintín, the mayor of San Felipe, José Luis Dagnino López, is urging the president to focus on his municipality, which also requires a Social Justice Plan and should be considered a Strategic Development Hub.
Through his social media accounts, the mayor of the state’s seventh municipality reported that San Felipe faces an international problem that demands the attention and support of the Federal Government and President Claudia Sheinbaum. He noted that it is a newly created municipality facing significant challenges in consolidating its economic and social development.
He mentioned that among the most important challenges is the issue arising from the protection measures for endemic species inhabiting the Upper Gulf of California, a region of great environmental value to the country, such as the vaquita marina and the totoaba.
“We recognize the importance of conserving our natural resources; however, it is also necessary that the public policies promoted by the federal government comprehensively consider the social and economic realities of San Felipe families.
“For decades, our community has borne the brunt of restrictions that have directly impacted the region’s main economic activity: fishing.” Therefore, San Felipe also requires social justice, development opportunities, and programs that compensate for the sacrifices made by thousands of families in favor of environmental protection.”
Dagnino López mentioned that, now more than ever, it is necessary to build balanced solutions that harmonize ecosystem conservation with the well-being of the population, promoting productive alternatives, investment, infrastructure, and decent employment to guarantee a prosperous future for present and future generations.
San Felipe deserves to be heard, attended to, and considered within national public policies as a strategic municipality that has contributed to the care of Mexico’s natural heritage and that today demands real opportunities for its development, without having to block highways or affect third parties. Our port deserves social justice.
“In that regard, I inform the public that I have sent several documents to the office of the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, requesting the intervention of the Mexican government so that San Felipe is considered within the national strategy of Development Hubs for Well-being.”
He has also requested that the necessary steps be taken These efforts are necessary for the design and implementation of a Social Justice Plan for the Municipality of San Felipe, which will comprehensively address the long-standing needs of our community, strengthen infrastructure, promote economic development, generate opportunities for families, and improve the quality of life for the residents of San Felipe.
One of the first results of these efforts is the recent formation of the Investment Promotion Committee in the Municipality of San Felipe, an initiative promoted by the municipal government through the Ministry of Economy of the Government of Mexico. This committee will strengthen coordination among the three levels of government and the productive sector, Dagnino López emphasized.
