The Baja California State Civil Protection Coordination issued a warning for high temperatures that will continue from Wednesday, July 9th to Friday, July 11th, primarily in Mexicali and San Felipe, where highs of up to 48 degrees are expected, increasing the risk of heat exhaustion and dehydration.
Mexicali and San Felipe, the areas most at risk from heat exhaustion
In Mexicali, high temperatures of 48, 47, and 45 degrees are expected between Wednesday and Friday, with lows as low as 31 degrees. In San Felipe, highs will range between 40 and 37 degrees, with constant lows of 30 degrees and moderate winds. In both cases, skies will remain mostly clear, conditions that increase the risk of health problems.
In Tecate, highs of up to 36 degrees are forecast; in Ensenada, between 26 and 28 degrees. Meanwhile, Tijuana, Rosarito, and San Quintín will have mild weather, with highs between 22 and 28 degrees Celsius (72 and 82 degrees Fahrenheit), along with morning fog and wind gusts of up to 40 km/h (25 mph) in San Quintín.
Recommendations Issued for Possible Heat Stroke
State coordinator Salvador Cervantes Hernández explained that the phenomenon is due to a high-pressure system in the northwest of the country, which also increases the risk of forest fires in dry scrub areas.
The population is asked to avoid the sun between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., stay hydrated, wear light-colored clothing, sunscreen, and not leave people or pets in closed cars. It is also recommended not to light bonfires or burn outdoors and to report fires to 911.
