Tragic Incident at Baja 1000 Inspection in Ensenada

Two people died and two were injured in a hit-and-run incident during the Baja 1000 inspection in Ensenada, Baja California.

The accident occurred on the morning of Thursday, November 14, on Rotario Boulevard and Dunas in the tourist area of Ensenada. This area is where preparations are made for the iconic “Baja 1000 Off-Road Race,” which attracts hundreds of participants from around the world to navigate the rugged terrain of the region.

Eyewitness Accounts

Families and runners who were watching the inspection of the participating vehicles witnessed the accident, which was recorded in various videos shared on social media. The footage shows that one of the participants, driving an orange “trophy” vehicle, lost control for unknown reasons and ran over four people of foreign origin, also hitting three “racing” vehicles. The victims were immediately taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Unfortunately, two of them later died from their injuries.

Victims and Arrest

The victims were identified as Fred Goff James and Esteban Velázquez. A third person is at risk of having a hand amputated. The driver allegedly responsible for the incident was arrested by the authorities. Additionally, it was reported that the Score International team would be sanctioned by state and municipal authorities.
