Approximately half a million people in Baja California live below the poverty line, including 62,000 in “extreme poverty” in cities like Tijuana and Mexicali, according to Netzahualcóyotl Jáuregui Santillán, the state’s Secretary of Wellbeing.

“Our goal is to continue reducing these numbers,” said Jáuregui Santillán. “As a state, we are committed to lifting people out of poverty. In the first two years of the current administration, we have successfully decreased the number of people living in poverty.”

He noted that at the beginning of this decade, around 800,000 people in Baja California were living below the poverty line.

“We are also collaborating with our state congress to establish more rights for children, young people, individuals with disabilities, and seniors to support even more vulnerable populations.”

Jáuregui Santillán mentioned that these figures are provided by Mexico’s National Council for Social Development and published by Statista Research Development.
