The fourth person arrested in connection with the killings of three surfers in Baja California has been identified as Ángel Jesús “N”, 31 years old, from Ensenada. This is the third suspect to be charged with homicide in the case.
Carter Rhoad and brothers Callum and Jake Robinson were killed in April while on a camping and surfing trip. The bodies of the three men were found decomposing in a remote well, about 50 feet deep, 4 miles from where they were killed. Thieves had apparently killed the men to steal their truck, which they wanted for its tires.
The victims were all passionate surfers and shared a love for life. Callum, who lived in Ocean Beach, was a professional lacrosse player who coached young players. Jake was pursuing a career in medicine and loved running, swimming, and attending live music festivals. Carter played soccer at Point Loma Nazarene University before graduating in 2014.
The families of the victims are remembering their loved ones with emotional tributes. Callum’s mother described him as “lovable, larger-than-life character” who brought love and hope to everyone he knew. Jake was remembered as a “happy, gentle and compassionate soul.” Carter’s former coach said his love for life was contagious and that he brought love and hope to everyone he knew.
The community in Ocean Beach has come together to support the families of the victims. The family is requesting that people “live bigger, shine brighter, and love harder” in their sons’ memory. They have also asked that the community help bring them home to their loved ones across borders and oceans.
It’s a tragic loss for the surfing community and beyond, as these three men were taken from their families and friends far too soon. It is hoped that justice will be served and that those responsible for their deaths will face the consequences of their actions.
