Elections 2024: Armed attacks reported in Tijuana and Oaxaca

An armed attack occurred near a voting center in the Fundadores neighborhood, in the border city of Tijuana, leaving three people injured, according to Baja California’s Secretary of Citizen Security.

Local media reported that the violent episode occurred when a suspected criminal attempted to rob an entrepreneur who was waiting in line to vote. The bodyguard opened fire on the assailant, which led to a shootout. A woman standing in line also sustained an ankle injury.

The attacker managed to flee, and authorities cordoned off the area. The injured woman was taken to the nearest hospital for medical treatment, while the businessman also left the scene.

Gunmen and state police face off in Oaxaca

Armed men and state police faced off with gunfire near the campaign house of Juan Carlos García Márquez, a Morena candidate for mayor of Santa Lucía del Camino, Oaxaca.

After a few minutes of tension, while citizens were voting, the state police managed to prevent the armed men from burning a ballot box.

No injuries or affected people were reported in this incident.
