Passport issuance temporarily suspended in Baja California and Edomex

The SRE explained that the objective is to safeguard the well-being of both users and public servants in said delegations

The Ministry of Foreign Relations announced the temporary suspension of activities in the delegations in Mexicali and Tijuana, located in the State of Baja California, as well as those located in Naucalpan de Juárez and Toluca de Lerdo in the State of Mexico, between December 26 2020 to January 10, 2021.

Through a statement, he explained that the objective is to safeguard the well-being of both users and public servants in said delegations.

“The email address [email protected] is available to citizens for the sole attention of accredited emergencies for health, academic, work or family reunification reasons,” he said.

He added that in due course the Ministry of Foreign Relations will announce as of which date appointments for the designated delegations can be scheduled.

Said appointments would be scheduled at the Contact Center, available at the telephone number 800 80 10 773, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., as well as on the portal Internet, at the following electronic address: https://citas.sre.gob.mx.

He also clarified that this is the only authorized site, and scheduling appointments is completely free.

“Users have reiterated the importance of avoiding fraud and not making payments or deposits to personal accounts or in convenience stores to obtain an appointment to process their passport,” he warned.

The entrance to the rest of the headquarters of the Delegations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) that maintain operations for the passport process must comply with the following protocol:

• Compulsory attendance by scheduled appointment, 15 minutes before it.

• Wear a mask and apply antibacterial gel.

• It is suggested to wear an acrylic mask and latex gloves.

• The temperature will be taken upon entering the office.

• Maintain 1.5 m distance between people.

• Access will not be allowed to those with symptoms of respiratory disease.

He also warned that depending on the risk traffic light issued by the federal or state Health Secretariat, the service may be restarted or suspended in the delegations.
