Zacatecas can often be overlooked by those traveling Mexico but if you have the time, visiting Zacatecas is truly worth it. The town is quite unique in that it has flavors and aspects of Northern Mexico culture and traditions mixed with central/colonial Mexico architecture and flare. While our time in Zacatecas was quite short, we did manage to squeeze in a few really fun adventures during our time there!
What to Do in Zacatecas
♦ Visit the Mina El Eden– Taking a train deep underground is always fun and adventurous. Hop aboard and discover the rich history of mining in Zacatecas! This is a great way to take a break from the sunshine and do something totally different. The entrance fee is $100 pesos (about $5.25 USD) per person. Address: Antonio Dovali Jaime s/n, Centro, Zacatecas
♦ Walk the Beautiful Streets
The winding streets and alleyways remind us a lot of the city of Guanajuato. For that reason, we highly suggest setting down your guidebook and just going for a stroll around downtown! You never know what beauty you will find!
♦ Visit a Bullring
The Hotel Quinta Real Zacatecas is home to what once was a bullfighting ring. It is absolutely beautiful! There is a restaurant at this gorgeous (and super fancy) hotel, but we just chose the free option of wandering around the grounds and the old bullring and had a great time exploring and taking pictures! Address: Segunda de Palomares, Centro, Zacatecas
♦ Visit the Cerro de la Bufa
Take a short taxi ride up the the top of “Cerro de la Bufa” to get an amazing view of the city! In addition to great views, there is a monument, a museum, and there is even zip lining available! There are snack type food vendors too, making this a great, breezy spot to spend the afternoon. Address: Explanada Cerro de la Bufa La Bufa, Zacatecas
