Personnel from the Second Naval Region managed to rescue the 20 crew members who were on board; being two women and 18 men.
Ensenada, Baja California.- Personnel assigned to the Second Naval Region based in Ensenada, carried out the search for a smaller vessel and the rescue of 17 Mexican crew members and three Guatemalans who were on board it, approximately 40 kilometers away, Northwest of the Ensenada coast.
This action was carried out when an alert was received by the Eleventh District of the United States Coast Guard, during the early hours of Tuesday, in which they indicated that they had received a report about a boat that had mechanical problems. , providing the location coordinates according to the information received.
Therefore, the immediate departure of a Defender-class vessel was ordered to search for the said vessel and safeguard human life at sea.
Once the naval personnel located the smaller vessel, they managed to rescue the 20 crew members who were on board; being two women and 18 men, two of them minors, 15 and 17 years old, it is also worth mentioning that of the 20 people rescued, three indicated that they were of Guatemalan nationality.
After the rescue, the boat was towed to the port of Ensenada for presenting a danger to navigation, and the 20 people rescued were transferred by sea to the dock of the Second Naval Region, where Naval Health personnel provided them with the corresponding medical attention, reporting their state of health as stable.
Likewise, personnel from the National Institute of Migration carried out the corresponding procedures and actions for the three foreigners.
It is worth mentioning that thanks to these actions, the Ensenada Naval Search Rescue and Maritime Surveillance Station has rescued 35 people in less than 24 hours, also for emergencies at sea, the Second Naval Region makes available to citizens the number (646) 172-4000.
With these actions, the Secretariat of the Navy-Navy of Mexico reaffirms its commitment to citizenship to safeguard human life at sea, since within the functions performed as a Coast Guard, it has highly trained personnel to provide humane and responsible care.
