The Puerto Peñasco photovoltaic plant, which inaugurated its first stage this year, will guarantee energy in Baja California for at least more than 10 years, assured the state’s Secretary of Economy, Kurt Honold Morales.
He pointed out that although the first 120 megawatts produced will remain in Sonora, starting next year Baja California will receive 300 megawatts from this plant, 300 the following year and 280 at the end, which will guarantee the state’s energy.
Honold Morales indicated that Baja California has enough energy to cover its demand, and when referring to the blackouts that have occurred in Mexicali, he affirmed that they derive from weather conditions.
“The problem we had in Mexicali is like when hurricanes arrive in Cancun or Cabo San Lucas, we had a very strong gust of air and lightning, which caused the poles to fall to the, and that interrupted the electric power”
Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, governor of Baja California, assured for her part that the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) is already working on restoring the electricity service, insisting that there is no lack of energy in the state.
