The border city obtained the number one position with respect to the most violent localities in the country
Tijuana is once again giving something to talk about now by crowning itself as the city that has registered the most homicides at the national level, at least so far in the government led by Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who has been in office since December 2018.
More than 4 thousand murders were committed in the city according to the records that exist until December 2020, in addition to the fact that just last week, municipal authorities announced that they had registered 96 homicides only counting the first 18 days of January.
Given the facts, the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) had declared that the city was the largest generator of violence in the country so far, which was finally confirmed by placing it in the first place in this count of the most violent cities in the country.
The lower Californian town managed to surpass Ciudad Juárez (2,785), which has led the list on several occasions. The latter is followed by León (1,113), Acapulco (1,012) and Culiacán (905).
Based on the records obtained, the Undersecretary of Public Safety and Citizen Protection, Ricardo MejÃa, began with the implementation of a strategic plan that aims to reduce the rates of this crime in the Mexican Republic, since in total there are 15 cities that they concentrate close to 30% of the homicides committed in the nation.
Mexico counted 12 thousand 251 attempts against human life in 2020, of which 3 thousand 39 were confirmed as murders, in turn of that amount, 2 thousand 603 were carried out intentionally, while 31 qualified as femicides, according to information provided by the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System Leonel EfraÃn Cota Montaño.
